I wanted to share a quick update about why you might have noticed I’ve been a bit slower to respond or occasionally absent lately.
A Difficult Time for Our Family
My dog Buddy, who’s been my office companion for years (and occasional meeting crasher when he decides to bark at the postman), suddenly developed some serious health issues. He went from being his usual energetic self to struggling with weakness in all his legs, particularly his front ones. After some tests, it turned out he had a spinal disc problem in his neck that was putting pressure on his spinal cord.
This meant an immediate trip to a specialist neurology centre, where he had an MRI and ended up staying for several days under round-the-clock care. The good news is he responded well to medical treatment without needing surgery, and he’s shown great improvement.
However, the uncertainty and stress of having him in specialist care, combined with managing everything remotely while trying to keep up with work, has been pretty overwhelming. Anyone with pets will know that worry when your furry family member isn’t well.
The Road Ahead
Buddy is making good progress – he’s now able to walk when supported and is much more mobile than he was initially. However, he faces ongoing treatment including mandatory cage rest for four weeks, followed by physiotherapy sessions and potential follow-up appointments with neurological specialists. The journey has been both emotionally challenging and financially significant, with veterinary costs running into thousands of pounds – and that’s before we factor in the upcoming physio and potential additional specialist consultations.
